Ignore the Fascist `Happy Talk';
Fight for LaRouche's Solutions!

by John Hoefle

April 17—With the nation and the world caught in the grip of an economic, political, and cultural death spiral, it is essential that our government provide us with honesty and leadership. The government has to be willing to tell us the truth about our present situation and what we must do to correct it. What we do not need is spin, happy talk, and programs designed to restart the policies which got us into this mess in the first place. Unfortunately, what our government is giving us is the latter, and in doing so is leading us to our doom.

The happy talk is everywhere. President Barack Obama claims to see "glimmers of hope," and a vision of "an America teeming with new industry and commerce." Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke sees "green shoots of recovery," thanks to the trillions of dollars in taxpayers' money he, and the Bush and Obama Administrations, have stolen from the American people, and given to the financial parasites who have destroyed our nation's economy. The banks are reporting profits again, and some are even talking about returning the bailout money, which they insist they never really needed. It is a "Big Lie" performance worthy of Nazi propaganda minister Hermann Göring, or perhaps even the masters of spin themselves, the factotums of the British Empire.

There is not a word of truth to any of it. There are no glimmers of hope in the sense indicated by Obama, no green shoots, no bank profits, and no viable banking system, bailouts or not.

That, in itself, is nothing new—you know it already, even if some among you would prefer to ignore it. The real question is, what are we going to do about it?

The Kook Factory

When he first took office,s President Obama was more forthright about the economic crisis, saying the problems did not happen overnight, and would not be solved quickly. Now, even though the situation is deteriorating at an accelerating rate, he claims to see "glimmers of hope." On top of that, the Administration is now pushing a plan to, in effect, encourage ordinary Americans to invest in mutual funds containing financial toxic waste, so that they may participate in the "recovery" of those worthless assets.

"The Obama Administration is encouraging several large investment companies to create the financial-crisis equivalent of war bonds: bailout bonds," the New York Times reported April 9. "The idea is that these investments, akin to mutual funds ... would give ordinary Americans a chance to profit from the bailouts that are being financed by their tax dollars."

This is beyond insane. During World War II, the U.S. government sold war bonds to raise money to fight fascism. Today, the U.S. government is proposing to set up a mechanism to raise funds for fascism! Is it not enough that the government is stealing trillions of dollars from the taxpayers in the greatest swindle of all time, and using that money to prop up a bankrupt corporatist global banking system? Must we now lure people in for further fleecing, as a way of spinning this swindle as a public good?

This unsavory spin from the Obama Administration bears all the hallmarks of the cult of so-called "behavioral economists," which has taken over the non-bailout aspects of the Administration's economic policy. While chief economic advisor Larry Summers keeps the bailout on track for his parasite buddies in the banks and hedge funds, the behaviorists are busy dreaming up ways to convince the American people that the breakdown, which is becoming increasingly visible, is actually a positive sign. As with the "financial war bonds" scheme, everything these kooks propose is immoral, economically incompetent, and designed to herd the sheep into the fleecing pen, and then the slaughterhouse.

These "behavioral economists" are not economists. What they practice is a form of psychological warfare designed to brainwash the American people into accepting the breakdown of living standards, and of society itself, that is the inevitable result of the Administration's own economic policies. They get away with calling themselves economists because the field is rife with incompetence and corruption, and so full of charlatans that it provides these nasty clowns with a modicum of cover.

One of these fascist bozos, Richard Thaler, has an article in the April 20 issue of Newsweek, which asserts that being broke is a "behaviorial problem"! What blew up the world was not the out-of-control speculators who turned our economy into a casino, but that you did not save enough money! Fortunately, Thaler and his fellow brainwashers are here to help you correct your errors. How we're supposed to save more, while prices soar and we earn less, is conveniently left unaddressed. "It doesn't have to hurt," Thaler says, if you can just learn to enjoy it.

One can expect, as we careen headlong down the slippery slope, more such fascist propaganda from the kook factory. Some of it will be designed to convince us that the bailout is working, while much of the rest will have a "green" tint, painting austerity as "positive measures" to "heal the planet," while our world crashes around us. Don't believe any of it.

Countergang

While the Obama Administration pushes its British-run behavioral modification brainwashing agenda, the Brits are also running an opposition to the bailout. This is classic gang-countergang strategy, honed to an art by the British colonial office in such places as Kenya and Northern Ireland, a strategy which pits one part of the population against another. On the one hand, we have the Obama Administration which is pushing both the bailout and the "green" agenda, while on the other hand, we have the right-wing blowhards like Rush Limbaugh and the hyenas at Fox News, whipping the ditto-heads into a frenzy against the Obama Administration and its alleged "socialism." Both sides are irrational, and neither is doing anything constructive to help promote solutions.

The danger here, is that this irrationality can be used to promote enraged mobs, which, in turn, provide the cover for professional provocateurs to commit acts of domestic terrorism to provide the pretext for police-state actions. That is a time-tested method for destroying nations, and you can bet that if it happens, the behaviorists will be out in full force telling us it was our fault. Making the victims feel guilty is what they do best.

LaRouche Is the Solution

If we are to escape the deadly trap which has been set for us by the parasites of the Brutish Empire, we must not allow ourselves to be manipulated. We must stop, take a deep breath, and think! The Empire, whose success depends upon us acting like unthinking beasts, cannot control us when we stand up on our hind legs and act like rational, creative human beings.

We know the causes of our crisis, the reasons why our society is collapsing, the weaknesses our adversaries have exploited to bring us to this point, and the solutions to solving these problems and returning to prosperity. Lyndon LaRouche has given us chapter and verse, diagnosis and solution, not only providing us with the answers, but giving us the methods by which we can figure out the solutions ourselves.

What we are lacking, thus far, is the moral fitness to put aside our prejudices and our fears, and work together to save humanity. We must all take personal responsibility for the fate of mankind, pooling our individual strengths to overcome our weaknesses. We must look deep within ourselves to identify and correct the flaws which have allowed us to be led so far astray. We know the problems, we know the solutions. What remains to be seen is if we have the morality, and the guts, to turn this descent into Hell into a new Renaissance.
