LaRouche Endorses Meeks's Call for U.S. Congressional Dialogue with Iran's Parliament

Jan. 21, 2007 (EIRNS)—Lyndon LaRouche emphasized today that he is very enthusiastic about the announcement by Congressman Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) that Meeks wants to set up a "Dialogue Caucus" in the U.S. Congress, which would establish direct communication with members of the Iranian Parliament.

LaRouche said that Congress should explain to President Bush, that Bush has been stupid and neurotic in refusing to engage in any diplomacy with Iran or Syria; and that therefore Congressman Meeks and the others who are pushing this idea are absolutely right. You have to have this kind of direct dialogue, given the current global strategic situation, LaRouche emphasized.

As reported on Jan. 20, Rep. Meeks, in the context of former Congressman Lee Hamilton's testimony before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Jan. 19, "supported Hamilton, and went further by inquiring about the feasibility of a 'Dialogue Caucus' made up of U.S. Congressmen, to talk directly with individuals in the Iranian Parliament. EIR discussions with another Representative revealed that members of the Congress have been discussing this idea, and that there is widespread support for it."
