PRESS RELEASE
Kucinich Tuesday Press Conference on Impeaching Cheney
April 23, 2007 (EIRNS)—Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Oh.) will hold a noon Washington press conference April 24 to announce his plan to introduce into the House of Representatives a resolution to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney. He reportedly plans to introduce it Wednesday, April 25, the same day a rally backing his resolution is scheduled.
Kucinich's actions come as efforts are underway in the Vermont legislature that could trigger the Jefferson Rules to compel Congress to take up the impeachment of both Bush and Cheney.
Last week the Vermont Senate passed a resolution calling for their impeachment. The same resolution is set to be taken up by the Vermont House, possibly also on April 25. If the Vermont House passes the Senate resolution, the Jefferson rules, which are incorporated in the rules of the U.S. House of Representatives, would require the House to take up the matter. The Jefferson Rules, written by Thomas Jefferson, state that if both chambers of any single state's legislature pass resolutions of impeachment, Congress must take up the issue.
