Fire Salvos Against the Greens
Dec. 14, 2009 (EIRNS)—The sponsors of the Copenhagen Climate Challenge Conference, which opposes the thesis that humans are the cause of climate change, released an open letter to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon over the signatures of some 150 climate researchers, "asking the United Nations and other supporters of this month's Climate Change Conference to produce convincing observational evidence for their claims of dangerous human-caused global warming and other changes in climate."
"Climate change science is in a period of negative discovery," the letter states, "the more we learn about this exceptionally complex and rapidly evolving field the more we realize how little we know. Truly, the science is not settled." To which Tony Blair replied, in his speech in Copenhagen: "It is said that the science around climate change is not as certain as its proponents allege. It doesn't need to be." [Recall Blair's statements about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.]
Hard-hitting statements have also been made by Martin Durkin of Great Britain, the producer of the movie "The Great Global Warming Swindle," which Britain's Channel 4 TV broadcast in 2007, in an interview with EIR on Dec. 11. He attacked the Green movement for its "repulsive, reactionary neocolonialism," adding that "global warming is about politics, it is not about science, and the politics that supports global warming is a profoundly reactionary, wicked, snobbish politics, I believe."
The Green movement is "anti-people," Durkin said. "Population control has always been a major part of it. People think of the Nazis and eugenics, but in fact the eugenics movement was very wide in Europe and obviously came from Britain. But was also very big in the US with sterilization programs and so on. It is very interesting that the IPCC in their scenarios have 'good' and 'bad' scenarios in their future trajectories of society—and their 'good' scenario is 'population control, limited migration, limited trade': It is a very reactionary, right wing, backward looking view of the world. The link with population control has obviously been there in the modern Green movement, like the Sierra Club and Paul Ehrlich's Population Bomb, and in the earliest books on the Climate Crisis.... It is a very sinister movement."
Durkin cited Prince Charles as typical of the hatred of ordinary people that characterizes the ecology movement. "When Prince Charles says, 'Wouldn't it be nice if everyone were peasants again,' it's because he wants to be an old-style king, where everyone is groveling beneath him. He doesn't like the idea that suddenly there are state agents and plumbers, who have bigger houses than professors. This is a kind of class war, which is I think waged by upper-class people and impoverished upper-class people in the middle classes against ordinary people."
In an interview published in the Dec. 11 issue of the German weekly Junge Freiheit, Durkin lashed out against those of his critics who call him a "climate denier." Using the term, "denier," Durkin says, "apparently is to construe a parallel to the so-called Holocaust deniers. In my view, this is an irony, because if you look at the underlying axioms of thought of the green movement, you find in their deep structures the threads of thought that philosophers like Nietzsche and Heidegger had, but also ideological constellations like you find them in Hitler's Mein Kampf. And these people, who in my view stand in the same romantic, anti-capitalist tradition as these thinkers or, respectively, the National Socialists—they call me a "denier"?
As if to prove the points made by Monckton and Durkin, Dennis Meadows himself, the infamous co-author of the book Limits to Growth, endorsed drastic depopulation of the Earth in an online interview with the German weekly Der Spiegel on Dec. 9, saying that, "even 7 billion people is too much for this planet.... If everybody should be allowed to have the full potential of mobility, nourishment and self-development, it's 1 or 2 billion.... The problem is, that our style of life today [does] bodily harm to people of the future."
