Schiller Conference Devoted to `Rescuing Civilization from the Brink'
July 5, 2011 (EIRNS)—A two-day conference July 2-3 of the Schiller Institute, founded by Helga Zepp-LaRouche, featured an extraordinary program of economics and Classical culture, devoted to the aim of "rescuing civilization from the brink." Held in Rüsselsheim, Germany, the conference brought together approximately 350 people, many of them young, from all over Europe, to hear four panels:
- Imminent Disintegration of the World Financial System or Enactment of the Glass-Steagall Act?;
- The Pre-eminence of Science over Ideology;
- The Industrialization of Africa, the Moral Test for Europe; and
- Classical Culture, an Imperative for Mankind.
EIR will be featuring the major presentations from the conference in coming issues. They include the keynote by Helga Zepp-LaRouche, two speeches by economist Lyndon LaRouche, and a presentation on the forecastability of earthquakes by Russian scientist Prof. Sergey Pulinets. In the meantime, videos will be made available on the Lyndon LaRouche PAC website, and the site of the German Schiller Institute.
The conference program was devised to highlight the necessity of Classical culture, particularly music, in inspiring the creative powers of mankind, by including both musical offerings prior to the panels, and a Musikabend (music evening) on the first evening. One special treat was the participation, by speech and song, of noted Italian opera singer and music teacher Antonella Banaudi.
In a short memoir written after the event, Lyndon LaRouche evoked the powerful spiritual impact that conference program, music included, had on the participants, which he concluded with the following:
"It was, as some might say, two days that were, in Rüsselsheim, but not Rüsselsheim, alone. Let this be an immortal event, the most beautiful event, by virtue of its character and substance, its devotion to the immortal beauty of the human soul."
