Colonel Wilkerson Speaks Out
in Defense of Constitution

Dec. 21, 2011 (EIRNS)—One of the most vocal opponents of the Obama Administration's war drive, is Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, the former Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, at the time the invasion of Iraq was launched in 2003. Only later did he realize that the intelligence used to justify that war was a hoax.

In an interview with Russia Today on Dec. 8, he stressed that we are "marching the same road" that led from 1997-2003 to war with Iraq, with the same neocons making the same arguments. He cited the massive opposition on the part of Israeli leaders from the Mossad and the IDF to Netanyahu and Lieberman's "road to Armageddon," warning that, with Congress having recently given Netanyahu 26 standing ovations, and proving themselves "an inane body," Israel will likely lead the United States into a war.

Wilkerson has confirmed on different occasions the opposition of the Pentagon and the Armed Forces in general to any Israeli attack.

He was initially asked by Russia Today to comment on President Obama's gloating that he had killed Osama bin-Laden, in response to allegations that he was "appeasing" Iran. He said it was "unbelievable" to him that a U.S. President would brag about killing. "It is a measure of the man," he concluded. He recounted recent visits to Rome and Seoul, where news coverage of the U.S. focused on the brutal arrests of Occupy Wall Street protesters.

"We are killing our own citizens without due process," he added. On Dec. 12 on Examiner TV, Wilkerson also delivered a strong denunciation of the National Defense Authorization Act. It is a step towards tyranny, he said, like Caesar's crossing of the Rubicon, which will erode the tradition of civil-military relations that are the underpinning of the U.S. Constitution.

Our officer corps, he said, has the best knowledge of our nation's history and the provenance of civil-military relations. This understanding is the greatest protection against tyranny, and the new law is aimed at forcing our military to believe otherwise.
