COL. LAWRENCE WILKERSON TO EIR:

We Need an ‘Alert and Knowledgeable
Citizenry’ To Avoid Imperial Wars

Dec. 23, 2011 (EIRNS)—In an exclusive interview granted to Executive Intelligence Review's Jeffrey Steinberg Dec. 22, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson (ret.) discussed the folly of the wars undertaken by recent administrations, stressing that "this is a highly inappropriate time for another war in Western Asia." He expressed concern that, if the Israelis launch a strike against Iran, the U.S. would follow.

Colonel Wilkerson also responded to a question on the recent extrajudicial killings of American citizens by the Obama Administration, as "an outright, clear, unmistakable violation of the Constitution of the United States."

To deal with the moves of the United States toward imperial wars and moving toward "martial law," as it has since 9/11, Colonel Wilkerson hearkened back to the principles enunciated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in his famous farewell address, where he said that the only thing that could save the republic from such immense power being abused was "an alert and knowledgeable citizenry."
