Russia and China To Join Hands in Their Fight Against Afghan Heroin Menace

Dec. 18, 2014 (EIRNS)—Following his meeting with the Chinese Public Security Ministry at Moscow on Dec. 17, Russia’s Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN) Director, Viktor Ivanov, pointing to the "huge heroin production located in the geographical center of the SCO member nations," told the media that Russia and China have agreed to combat the production of this menace within the framework of the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the BRICS.

"We have agreed to consolidate our position on this issue [of combating the drug production in Afghanistan] before the special session of the UN General Assembly, which will focus on drugs,"

Ivanov said at a press conference held at the Rossiya Segodnya press center in Moscow.

Last July, following the BRICS heads of state summit at Fortaleza, Brazil, Ria Novosti reported an agreement between the five BRICS nations to cooperate with Russian FSKN chief Ivanov to eliminate the Afghan drug production.

On Nov. 18, Russia’s Sputnik News reported on a press conference in Moscow where had Ivanov pointed to the rapid decline in cooperation by the US anti-drug agencies since the Obama administration imposed sanctions against Russia. "The intensity of our cooperation has decreased by dozens of times because of the sanctions," Ivanov said at that press conference.
