Poroshenko Raves at Davos, on Eve of Berlin Talks
Jan. 21, 2015 (EIRNS)—Ukraine’s usurper-president Petro Poroshenko gave a raving speech at the Davos World Forum today, in which he charged that Russia had invaded his country with 9,000 (!) troops. He was speaking on the eve of discussions scheduled to occur in Berlin between the foreign ministers of his country, France, Germany, and Russia.
Poroshenko was understandably a bit unhinged, following his speech at the University of Zurich the night before, when numbers of those attending demonstrated against him, some declaring that they did not want to be in the same room as a baby-killer. Others held placards saying "Je suis Donbass." Poroshenko was stunned, but eventually shouted out "Slava Ukrainy!"—a slogan used by the Banderist fascist forces of his country.
Meanwhile, Lt.-Gen. Ben Hodges, commander of the U.S. Army Europe, visited Ukraine, on what he called his first official visit, to discuss setting up training of Ukrainian security forces later in the spring.
Hodges, speaking at the Ukraine Crisis Media Center in Kiev, was pummeled by journalists asking for confirmation of Russian military presence in Ukraine. He refused to call it an invasion, saying instead that there was overwhelming evidence that equipment was supplied by the Russians. He would "leave it to the Ukrainians" to talk about personnel on the ground, and to answer Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, who said that there was no evidence that Russian troops were in Ukraine.
As of late this evening, TASS reported that the Berlin meeting of what is now called the Normandy Quartet (Russia, France, Germany, and Ukraine) had agreed on support for the pull-back of weapons, and that the contact group should go ahead. What happens on the ground remains to be seen.
