Maritime Silk Road Seminar in Fujian Province: ’Creating a Common Destiny’
Feb. 12, 2015 (EIRNS)—Today concludes a two-day international meeting in China on the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road." Held in Quanzhou, some 280 participants—scholars and infrastructure experts—from 30 countries, are conferring on aspects of the official theme, "collectively building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and creating a community of common destiny."
Xinhua News Agency and other media focus on the speech by Jiang Jianguo, who is the Director of China’s State Council Information Office, which is co-hosting the conference with Xinhua. He said:
"The Maritime Silk Road enables countries along it, to live together as a big family. It is a community of common destiny. Currently, the Maritime Silk Road has entered a new stage of pragmatic cooperation. We can step up collaboration to reach a win-win situation. Through this we can continue to bring prosperity and progress by jointly accomplishing programs and creating common interests."
Fujian is the starting point of the ancient maritime Silk Road, and big today in ocean trade.
Another speaker stressed specific, current actions. Fujian Communist Party chief You Quan said,
"Fujian will step up infrastructure construction to improve air, sea, and land traffic. We will create a port clearance mechanism to facilitate the goods flow and personnel exchange. In the meantime, we will try to promote multiple trades and to advance maritime cooperation. It’s crucial to accelerate the experimental process of the Fujian Free Trade Area..."
The president of Xinhua, Cai Mingzhao, told the conference that his news agency will increase its coverage of both initiatives—the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, and offer new kinds of coverage packages.
