Ukraine War Drive Flirts with Nuclear War

Feb. 25, 2015 (EIRNS)—The Ukrainian government, installed by and supported by the U.S., U.K., and other NATO nations, is on a full-scale mobilization to get armaments from the United States—a move that could lead very quickly to nuclear confrontation with Russia. And the Ukrainians know it.

Listen to the Deputy Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko, speaking to CBC radio in Canada Feb. 21:

“Everybody is afraid of fighting with a nuclear state. We are not anymore, in Ukraine, we’ve lost so many people of ours, we’ve lost so much of our territory. However dangerous it sounds, we have to stop [Putin] somehow.”

Prystaiko was accompanied in Canada by Andriy Parubiy, first Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian parliament with a history in paramilitary fascist groups, who went on to Washington, D.C. to push for weapons. His 15 minute address to the National Democracy Institute focused on that objective, and included a boast that weapons would allow Ukraine to defeat Putin as they defeated Yanukovych.

While the intent of the Ukrainians, and their backers in Washington and London, is likely to be a conflict, perhaps nuclear, limited to Europe and Eurasia, the Russians don’t see it that way. Deputy Foreign minister Ryabkov warned Feb. 25, that the whole Minsk process would blow up if the U.S. started supplying weapons to Kiev. “It would be a major blow to the Minsk agreements and would explode the whole situation,” he said. Moscow would not be able to remain indifferent “to such provocative actions,” he added. “We’ll have to respond appropriately.”
