Netanyahu and Bush Leaguer Dermer Spied and Colluded with GOP Against P5+1
March 25, 2015 (EIRNS)—The Wall Street Journal revealed this week that Israel has been spying on the U.S. to obtain details about the secret negotiations between the P5+1 and Iran—and passing that information on to Republican opponents in the Congress to sabotage the final stage of the negotiations. This expose has significant implications, both for the U.S.-Israel relationship and the Republicans. One Washington source described the spy operation as clearly "crossing the red line," by using espionage to interfere in domestic U.S. political affairs.
The two people identified as responsible for the spying and political sabotage operation are Benjamin Netanyahu and his ambassador to the United States, Ron Dermer. Dermer comes straight out of the Bush Leagues. He is an American who renounced his US citizenship beginning in the late 1990s. Prior to moving to Israel, Dermer was a Republican Party operative. He went to work for Frank Lutz, a top Republican pollster, in 1994 and worked on writing the Contract on America pushed by Newt Gingrich and the nascent neo-con movement. His brother, a conservative Democrat and Mayor of Miami Beach, was a strong booster of George W. Bush and was instrumental in his 2004 re-election as President.
When he moved to Israel, Ron Dermer co-authored The Case for Democracy with Russian emigre Natan Sharansky. The book was the bible for Project Democracy and for the subsequent color revolutions.
It was Dermer’s Republican Party ties, that were key to the deal this year to have Netanyahu address the joint session of the US Congress, at the invitation of Speaker of the House John Boehner.
Now, the whole rotten Bush League apparatus is under investigation for collusion with an Israeli spy operation, aimed at wrecking the prospects for a P5+1 deal with Iran.
