Ash Carter Ramps Up War Provocations Against Russia
June 23, 2015 (EIRNS)—In line with the Obama Administration’s anti-Russia provocations, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter, delivering an address at Muenster on June 22 during his trip to Germany and following his meeting with defense ministers from Germany, Norway, and the Netherlands, promised weaponry and logistics to NATO, "because the United States is deeply committed to the defense of Europe, as we have been for decades." U.S. News & World Report reported from an AP wire that Carter said the U.S. will provide intelligence and surveillance capabilities, special operations forces, logistics, transport aircraft, and a range of weapons support that could include bombers, fighters, and ship-based missiles to Germany, Norway, and the Netherlands, which had reportedly agreed to provide the initial troops for the rapid reaction force.
"We do not seek a cold, let alone a hot war with Russia," Carter said in a speech at the Atlantik-Brücke (Atlantic Bridge), a Berlin think-tank that focuses on the German-U.S. relationship. Taking a belligerent posture, Carter said: "We do not seek to make Russia an enemy. But make no mistake: We will defend our allies, the rules-based international order, and the positive future it affords us. We will stand up to Russia’s actions and their attempts to re-establish a Soviet-era sphere of influence."
Today in Tallinn, Estonia, Carter provoked Russia further by announcing the positioning of heavy American tanks and other weaponry in the Baltics and Eastern Europe for the first time. Moscow has already protested against these provocations by the Obama administration. NATO has also "increased training rotations on territory of the newer NATO allies in the East, and stepped up patrols of the air and sea from the Baltic to the Black Sea intended to counter an increase of patrols by Russian forces around NATO’s periphery," the New York Times reported today.
