Prez Candidate O’Malley Urges Glass-Steagall on Nationwide TV; LaRouche Notes Parallel Effort by Jeremy Corbyn in U.K. Election
Aug. 17, 2015 (EIRNS)—Martin O’Malley, candidate for the Democratic Presidential nomination, appearing on CBS-TV’s "Face the Nation" hosted by John Dickerson yesterday, called for more candidate debates, since "[z]ero... is what we’ve had so far," and again came out swinging in support of Glass-Steagall.
"DICKERSON: What question would you ask Hillary Clinton?
"O’MALLEY: What question would I ask Hillary Clinton? I would ask Hillary Clinton what sort of ideas she has to make our economy work again for all of us, and whether or not she has the independence to rein in the sort of recklessness on Wall Street that tanked our economy once, and threatens to do it again.
"I am in favor of reinstituting Glass-Steagall. I’m in favor of putting robust prosecutorial efforts back on Wall Street. And as a candidate for president, each of us needs to state unequivocally whether we’re for reinstituting Glass-Steagall; whether or not we’re against the Trans-Pacific Partnership. I’m against the Keystone pipeline. Where does she stand? These are the things that you can only have answered in a debate."
On Aug. 14, American Statesman Lyndon LaRouche emphasized support for Glass-Steagall in his response to an institutional question on whether Jeremy Corbyn was qualified to be the next leader of the British Labour Party. Speaking on LaRouche PAC’s Friday Webcast, EIR Editorial Board member Jeffrey Steinberg conveyed LaRouche’s answer:
"Corbyn has said that one of his first priorities would be a full-blown Glass-Steagall policy for Britain: total bank separation."
O’Malley said the same thing yesterday on CBS-TV: Glass-Steagall is the defining issue for the 2016 Presidential elections. Steinberg continued, "As in America, what is urgently required in the U.K. is the principle of equity, where the interests of the common man and common woman are clearly put in the category of priorities."
