Kiev Riots Show the Rise of the Nazis in Ukraine
Sept. 1, 2015 (EIRNS)—Speaking at St. Petersburg Marine Technical University, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev, cited the on-going rioting in front of the Ukraine Parliament, and said,
"Currently, Nazism is being revived most openly and cynically in the Baltic countries and in Ukraine. Glorification of the pro-Nazi nationalist movements takes place, and their views find more and more supporters among the local population."
Tass said today that Patrushev told the audience that the political leadership of Ukraine encouraged nationalist and anti-Russian sentiment of its citizens during the entire post-Soviet period, and, with the support of the United States, this policy led to the forcible seizure of power by the opposition last year. The decisive role was played by the Right Sector ultra-nationalist group.
"The people oriented towards the West, and, adhering to anti-Russian views, came to power, and anti-Russian media intensified their activities in the country. The opinion of the other part of Ukrainian citizens was not heeded,"
Patrushev noted.
Addressing the students and lecturers of the International State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) in Moscow today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov touched upon the same subject, Tass reported:
"When parliamentary elections were held in Ukraine in 2012—and Svoboda’s charter adheres to documents of Ukrainian nationalists who announced their support for the new Hitler order — then EU made a statement, calling on Ukrainian politicians to refrain from cooperating with this strongly nationalist party," Lavrov noted.
"When the coup happened, we reminded our colleagues how they treated this organization,"
he continued.
"No one denied that the EU held such a position, but the French Foreign Minister said that “Everything is fine,” and that “Svoboda is moving in the direction of the political mainstream.”
Well, it showed its "mainstream" yesterday. One should not coquet with extremists anywhere," Lavrov stressed, according to Tass.
