Anti-Regime-Change U.S. Congressmen Coordinate with French on Policy

Nov. 23, 2015 (EIRNS)—Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.), chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia and Emerging Threats, and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), a member of that subcommittee, held meetings in Paris on Nov. 20, with senior French officials, to discuss counter-terrorism security matters. Both are outspoken opponents of the Obama Administration’s "Assad regime change" policy for Syria, insisting on its immediate replacement by the policy of uniting with Russia, and others, to crush ISIS—a policy which the British Monarchy fears France will adopt.

Rohrabacher bluntly outlined on his blog the policy shift he is advocating, in a Nov. 18 entry called "Target the Terrorists, Worry About Assad Later." He wrote that President François Hollande understands what many of Washington’s talking heads do not:

"Forget Assad for now. Target the terrorists who are training their killing machine on us. Yes, that means not just forgetting Assad, but laying aside worries about Putin. Russia’s jets have been pounding ISIS strongholds for days. That’s a good thing. Why do American decision-makers nitpick the less-than-perfect Russians while Russians kill those who would kill us?"

The United States allied with Russia to defeat Hitler, Rohrabacher wrote. He then suggested that "Assad Firsters" learn the lesson of the Obama/Hillary Clinton killing of Qaddafi. "The direct result of the decision to get rid of Qaddafi was radical control of half of Libya and, yes, the slaughter of our ambassador and his security team. My colleagues should rethink their talking points and avert another Benghazi in the sands of Syria."

Gabbard, who has also urged the United States to join Russia in fighting ISIS, and introduced a bill before leaving for Paris to end the "illegal, unconstitutional" anti-Assad war, warned again when interviewed from Paris by CNN’s Chris Cuomo, that

"If Assad is removed and overthrown, ISIS, al-Qaeda, Al Nusra, these Islamic extremist groups will walk straight in and take over all of Syria."

The bipartisan duo of Representatives met with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs Political Director Nicolas de Rivière and National Assembly Deputy Jean-François Copé, minimally, while in Paris. They then flew onto Cairo, where it was reported that they met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
