Organization for Prevention of Chemical Weapons Asserts Those Used in Syria Not Linked to Damascus Government
Jan. 9, 2016 (EIRNS)—The Organization for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has concluded that chemical weapons used in Syria on at least a dozen occasions, in which civilians were exposed, were not linked to the now destroyed stockpile once maintained by the Syrian government. The OPCW’s conclusion corroborates claims by the Syrian government that the rebel groups—backed by Obama, the British and the Saudis—were responsible for the attacks, reports Al Masdar News.
"In one instance, analysis of some blood samples indicates that individuals were at some point exposed to sarin or a sarin-like substance,"
said Ahmet Uzumcu, the head of the OPCW. He later added that the sarin gas examined bore different characteristics to the kind formerly owned by the Syrian government.
The OPCW investigation was conducted in response to a request from the Syrian government.
