The Appropriate Name for Human Rights Is Development, Say the BRICS Nations
March 1, 2016 (EIRNS)—Issuing a joint statement yesterday, at the annual High-Level Panel of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, the BRICS nations made an intervention into an institution that has been wielded as a club against the leaders of numerous developing nations that would not follow the dictates of the British oligarchy. The joint statement to the "Human Rights" Council, says:
"We consider the eradication of poverty as an indispensable requirement for, and overarching objective toward, the attainment of sustainable development, promoting social progress, safeguarding fairness and justice, and enhancing ecological conservation."
It says that all countries should avoid a "one-size-fits-all" approach, given the different levels of development, national realities, and histories.
There have been calls among the BRICS for the institution to get more involved, as a bloc of nations, in international political and "geopolitical" issues. This seems to be now on the agenda.
