Tsinghua Professor Participates in New York Conference
New York, April 7, by Guan Liming. The Schiller Institute, an international political and economic research organization, founded in 1984, held a policy seminar on April 7 at the Kaufman Center in Manhattan, and invited Tsinghua University Professor in Media and Communications, Li Xiguang, and a number of international scholars, to explore the issue of the New Silk Road.
During the discussion on the topic of “Building a World Land-Bridge: Realizing Mankind’s True Humanity, Professor Li presented the program of the Chinese government for building the “One Belt, One Road." The Schiller Institute has recently released a report in Chinese entitled, “The New Silk Road Becomes the World Land-Bridge."
The Schiller Institute had also invited a number of well-known scholars in politics and economics to participate. The speakers included Schiller Institute President, Helga Zepp-LaRouche, former U.S. Attorney General Ramsay Clark and the well-known South Korean scholar, Jai Poong Ryu, and other public figures.
Li Xiguang explained that the essence of the Chinese “Belt and Road" lies in the fact that China is committed not only to an “opening up" strategy, but also has to “open up westward," in order to forge, along the ancient Silk Road, a single economy, culture and community of common destiny, and create a vital line between the economies of Europe and those of Asia.
Helga Zepp-LaRouche, the founder of the Schiller Institute, said that China’s conception of the Belt and Road, and the cooperation established between the BRICS nations, is the hopeful beginning of a new economic international order. She stressed that the international community has to abandon traditional geopolitical thinking and adhere to the concept of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation in order to develop a new development paradigm. Professor Jai Poong Ryu explored from several angles the possibility of each country cooperating in order to resolve the nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula.
The Schiller Institute was founded in 1984 by Helga Zepp-LaRouche, the German wife of the well-known American political movement figure, Lyndon LaRouche (born in 1922).
Lyndon LaRouche has become very well known, as he had run eight times as a candidate for the U.S. Presidency, and in 2007 issued a warning about the onset of a major financial crisis, bringing this to the attention of economic circles. His wife Helga has been in China numerous times, and participated in a variety of scholarly forums there.
