India and China Reach ‘Important Consensus’ in Their High-Level Dialogue To Fight Terrorism
Sept. 27, 2016 (EIRNS)—A high-level team of India and China has discussed in Beijing for the first time
"ways to enhance security and cooperation to combat terror as officials from the two sides exchanged information on policies and legislation to deal with terrorism at the first high-level dialogue where they reached important consensus,"
reports Press Trust of India (PTI). The meeting was co-chaired by India’s R.N. Ravi, Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee in the government, and Wang Yongqing, Secretary General of Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of China.
Ravi also held in-depth discussions with Wang Yongqing "on enhancing cooperation in counter-terrorism and security and on measures to jointly deal with security threats and reached important consensus in this regard,"
wrote the Hindustan Times’ Beijing correspondent.
The Hindustan Times article pointed out that in addition to the Ravi-Wang dialogue,
"India and China have held five joint military exercises—Hand-in-Hand—that focused on counter-terror operations and disaster relief. The groundwork for the dialogue was laid during Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to China late last year.... India and China also agreed during Singh’s visit to enhance cooperation in combatting international terrorism by exchanging information on terror activities and groups, exchanging experiences on hijacking, hostage situations and other terror-related crimes, and coordinating positions on anti-terrorism endeavors at the regional and multilateral levels and backing each other."
