Japanese and Chinese Business Leaders Met in Beijing, Agreed To Cooperate on Belt and Road

Nov. 4, 2016 (EIRNS)—Concluding a two-day meeting in Beijing, Japanese and Chinese leaders released a joint statement that they will "further enhance collaboration on projects in third countries, including infrastructure development in Asia and the promotion of the One Belt, One Road policy." The meeting was organized by the Japanese Business Federation (Keidanren) and the China Center for International Economic Exchanges. It was attended by 60 CEOs. The Chinese participants urged their Japanese counterparts to encourage the Japanese Government to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

The CEO framework was established in November by former Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, and met earlier in Tokyo. It aims to strengthen exchanges between Japanese and Chinese companies regardless of the state of bilateral diplomatic relations. The Beijing meeting was also attended by Keidanren Chairman Sadayuki Sakakibara.
