FROM EIR DAILY ALERTRussian Strategic Thinker Lukyanov Believes There Will Be No More Talks on INF TreatyFeb. 4, 2019 (EIRNS)—Fyodor Lukyanov, Chairman of the Presidium of the Council for Foreign and Defense Policy, a non-governmental public association in Moscow, journalist and major editor, and a well-known strategic thinker, expressed the kind of pessimism which Helga Zepp-LaRouche defined as a problem with the Russian view of the current crisis. Lukyanov told the Russian daily Kommersant (as reported in the TASS press review this morning) that, while Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had stated that the U.S. was still ready to talk to all interested parties regarding the future of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, this call will likely fall on deaf ears.
he said. According to Lukyanov, the current developments stem from the fact that “the world order that emerged in the 1960-1980s has perished,” and all institutions established in that period, including the arms- control system, are bound to meet the same fate. |
