‘Deal of the Century’ Peace Plan Could Be Overshadowed by Israeli Trial of the Century

Jan. 28, 2020 (EIRNS)—The announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of the Deal of the Century Middle East Peace Plan today might be overshadowed by the trial of the century, at least for Israel. Netanyahu has withdrawn his bid to seek immunity from the Knesset, opening the way for Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit to announce a date to begin Netanyahu’s criminal trial. The prime minister, had no real choice, since such immunity probably would not have passed the Knesset. Mandelblit charged Netanyahu today with variously fraud, breach of trust and bribery in three separate cases. Netanyahu is the first sitting prime minister to be criminally charged.
