Syrian Army Takes Full Control of Major Highway in Western Syria
Feb. 11, 2020 (EIRNS)—The Turkish intervention in Idlib province appears to have had little effect, so far, on the Syrian campaign against the jihadis. According to news reports this morning, the Syrian Arab Army took full control of the north-south M5 highway after liberating adjacent western suburbs of Aleppo city. At least six of the twelve observation posts that Turkey set up in Idlib as part of the 2018 Sochi agreement are in territory now controlled by the Syrian government.
To the southwest, the jihadis, with Turkish artillery support, launched an offensive to retake Saraqib but the Syrian army reportedly beat it back.
