‘Messianic Mike’ Pompeo Crusades To Prevent U.S.-China and Global Cooperation against Pandemic

March 26 (EIRNS)—It is past time to remove Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State, before his crusade against any unified international cooperation against the coronavirus pandemic results in catastrophic global mass death.

The press briefing Pompeo rushed to give after the Foreign Ministers of the Group of 7 met online yesterday, was wild. He did report that the “Wuhan virus”—as he insisted on calling the pandemic—had been the main subject of discussion, but he said nothing whatever about that discussion. He spoke only about the agenda he demanded the G7 discuss: defending “our way of life” against the heathen.

“First, we spent a substantial amount of time on threats posed by authoritarian states,” he began. “The Chinese Communist Party poses a substantial threat to our health and way of life, as the Wuhan virus outbreak clearly has demonstrated. The CCP also threatens to undermine the free and open order that has underpinned our mutual prosperity and safety in the G7 countries.

“I urged every one of the countries to work together to protect the UN and other organizations from its malign influence and authoritarianism. We G7 countries must promote our shared values of freedom, sovereignty, good governance, transparency, and accountability, and push the UN to uphold these principles as well.”

Then came, in succession: Keeping the pressure up against the other “authoritarian state,” Russia. Urging the other members of the G7 “to go further in joining ... our pressure campaign” of unilateral sanctions against Iran—one of the worst-hit nations by the coronavirus. North Korea, similarly. Syria, Libya. He even put staying united to help Myanmar “resist malign influences” on the G7 agenda!

Likewise, according to an NBC report, the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, under Pompeo’s direction, is doing everything it can to sink the adoption of any United Nations Security Council resolution on joint efforts against the coronavirus pandemic, by insisting that any such resolution pin China as its source.
