China Warns against Continuing Provocations on Hong Kong and Taiwan

May 24, 2020 (EIRNS)—Instigated by the provocative comments of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and others, Hong Kong demonstrators took to the streets today to protest against China’s new security law regarding Hong Kong. CNN bragged that there are online videos of “protesters throwing objects at police,” and that several thousand people marched, even though the authorities declared the march illegal—among other things, for violating coronavirus separation requirements.

On Taiwan, Wang said that “the Taiwan question is China’s internal affair and the U.S. should recognize its high sensitivity and abide by the one-China principle,” according to Xinhua. Wang stated:

“We resolutely oppose official exchanges with the Taiwan authorities under the guise of pandemic prevention cooperation, resolutely oppose the pursuit of so-called international space for Taiwan in violation of the one-China principle, and resolutely oppose the external forces’ connivance and encouragement of Taiwan secessionists’ seeking Taiwan independence in the name of pandemic control.”
