Reality Shreds Pompeo’s Silly Lie that China Caused the Large Number of Deaths in the United States
May 29, 2020 (EIRNS)—The barrage of half-truths and largely lies has escalated against China, including the April 29 charge by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that “The Chinese Communist Party has a responsibility to tell the world how this pandemic got out of China and all across the world, causing global economic devastation. America needs to hold them accountable.” Earlier this month, Pompeo said that there was “enormous evidence.... that this came from that laboratory in Wuhan.”
While many commentators see this poisonous attack as a way to distract attention, this is just the most recent opportunity for Pompeo to promote the outlook that he is constantly devoted to: preventing cooperation between the United States, China, and Russia.
Considering COVID-19, China has four times the population of the United States, but a much smaller number of COVID-19 deaths. The reason: science, public health, mobilization, and community involvement.
Here are data for COVID-19 deaths in major countries as of May 26 of this year, showing displays the number of COVID-19 ceaths per million persons, by country:
China, 3.2; United States, 302.9; United Kingdom, 545.7; Spain, 580.0; Italy, 545.0; Germany, 101.2; France, 437.1; Japan, 6.85.
Using these same data, we calculate the number of COVID-19 deaths per million people, as compared to that of China, which we set at 1. For example, China has had 3.2 deaths per million people, while the UK has had 546, which is 170 times as many:
China, 1; United Kingdom, 170; United States, 94; Spain, 180; Italy, 169; Germany, 31; France 136; Japan, 2.1.
The British oligarchy, Pompeo, and anti-China fanatic Republican Senators claim, among their charges, that on January 14, the Chinese government knew that SARS-CoV-2 was susceptible of human-to-human transmission, but deliberately withheld that information from the world until Jan. 20. This charge is wrong; but even if the claim were true, is this one-week delay the primary reason that the U.S. COVID-19 deaths per million people are nearly two orders of magnitude greater than China’s? Why were not Japan, South Korea, or Thailand similarly devastated by this supposed dastardly misinformation promoted by the Chinese Communist Party?
The truth is that the COVID-19 crisis was not caused by the deadly virus itself: It became possible for the virus to become rampant because of the 40-year take-down of the health and hospital system; the growth of a services-speculative bubble at the expense of the real productive economy, and the refusal to heed Lyndon LaRouche’s 1975 and subsequent warnings that by lowering potential relative population density, lower-life-form pandemics might flourish.
The United States and Western Europe—Spain, the United Kingdom, France—were unprepared. Japan took action, including early government provision of masks to citizens. The Chinese, using real physical economy, public health, and science, mobilized. It produced for the world hundreds of millions of masks, ventilators, etc. This is the simple truth that should be learned; if not, Pompeo’s Bertrand Russell-sized lies will lead us into world war.
