North Korea’s Kim Halts Military Action Plans against South Korea

June 24, 2020 (EIRNS)—North Korean Chairman Kim Jong Un today made a decision to suspend “military action plans” against South Korea, reported South Korean news agency Yonhap, citing Pyongyang’s Korean Central News Agency. Kim made the decision at the preliminary Central Military Commission meeting of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK). “At the preliminary meeting, the WPK Central Military Commission took stock of the prevailing situation and suspended the military action plans against the South brought for the fifth meeting of the Seventh Central Military Commission by the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army,” KCNA reported.

The meeting was convened to discuss the issues of military policy to be brought before the upcoming fifth meeting of the Seventh WPK Central Military Commission. They also reviewed a report and decisions, which “will be submitted to the fifth meeting, and some documents carrying the state measures for further bolstering the war deterrent of the country,” KCNA said.

At least eight South Korean and U.S. spy planes were scrambled on June 22, when Pyongyang reinstalled propaganda loudspeakers in the demilitarized zone, reported Chosun Ilbo.
