Republican Schrage, Source for Durham, Unveils ‘Cambridge Four’ British Intelligence Russiagate Spies
Aug. 10, 2020 (EIRNS)—Steven P. Schrage is a former George W. Bush government official and present consultant, who wrote “The Spies Who Hijacked America” on investigative journalist Matt Taibbi’s blog on Aug. 9. Schrage means British spies, whom he calls “the Cambridge Four” and compares to “the Cambridge Five” of Kim Philby, Guy Burgess, Anthony Blunt, Donald Maclean, John Cairncross; and whom he calls the movers both for the firing of Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn as National Security Adviser and for the entire “Russiagate” coup drive against President Donald Trump. Schrage makes clear he is providing information to the investigative counsel U.S. Attorney John Durham appointed by Attorney General William Barr to investigate the intelligence services in “Russiagate.”
Over July 11-12, 2016, Schrage was the convenor of major international conference “2016’s Race To Change the World: How the U.S. Presidential Campaign Can Reshape Global Politics and Foreign Policy,” at the Cambridge University Center for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH), focusing on the implications of the election for future U.S. foreign policy. As CRASSH described it:
“The conference will be taking place shortly before the Democratic and Republican Party nominating conventions begin. Sessions will focus on the global challenges facing the next President, the role that a President can personally play in an international context, and the state of the 2016 campaign itself. In addition to this, we will hear the views of representatives from a number of key U.S. allies and trading partners on what their priorities are for working with the next President.”
The conference was keynoted by former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and addressed by former U.S. Congressman Vin Weber, a Republican Party strategist; German Ambassador to the U.K. Peter Ammon; former Chief of MI6 Sir Richard Dearlove; and former Defense and Foreign Secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind; among others.
Schrage’s Wikipedia entry points out, as well that “At the symposium, FISA warrant subject Carter Page met FBI spy Stefan Halper for the first time, which launched the Russian collusion and Spygate controversies.... Only a few weeks after this conference, the FBI’s controversial Crossfire Hurricane investigation of Trump campaign officials was launched.”
Schrage is, then, in a position to detail the actions of Dearlove, Halper, Christopher Steele, and Christopher Andrew, in both triggering “Crossfire Hurricane” and in targeting the downfall of Flynn—Halper, in fact, told Schrage two days before the Washington Post leak that Flynn would be taken down. (Former House Intelligence Committee chairman and currently ranking member Rep. Devin Nunes last year called Schrage a part of a secret anti-Trump group in the GOP, as Schrage reports. Nunes has been aware of Schrage’s role for some time, and has repeatedly demanded that he “come clean.”)
Despite the self-serving statements and confusing rhetorical flourishes, Schrage’s post nonetheless indicates an “inadvertent” insider to the “Russiagate” scheme is telling John Durham and Attorney General Bill Barr how British intelligence designed it. LaRouche PAC began this exposure, of crucial importance to the survival of the United States, with its dossier “Robert Mueller Is an Amoral Legal Assassin: He Will Do His Job If You Let Him” in 2017, and has driven it home in recent international webcasts, including the link of “Russiagate” to the prosecutions of Lyndon LaRouche in the 1980s. Not incidentally, Halper is the son-in-law of CIA top official Ray Cline, who helped target LaRouche for persecution.
Schrage targets the coverup of Halper’s role, in particular, and promises more intelligence in what sounds like three more coming posts.
He also was interviewed by Maria Bartiromo on her Aug. 9 “Sunday Morning Futures” broadcast, in which he said that a conversation between Dearlove and Halper at the Cambridge conference “identified President Trump as a security threat.” He believes that the large money Halper was thereafter paid by the CIA Office of Net Assessments was for his surveillance of Carter Page and George Papadopoulos. He confirmed to Bartiromo’s question that he had been briefing U.S. Attorney John Durham.
