Sen. Ron Johnson Begins Subpoenaing FBI’s Director Wray, Defends Investigation of Biden Corruption

Aug. 10, 2020 (EIRNS)—Today, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, began issuing subpoenas, starting with the FBI’s Director Christopher Wray, for documents on “Crossfire Hurricane.” He indicated that Jonathan Winer would be subpoenaed for testimony. (Winer, from within the State Department, had worked with “former” MI6 agent Steele. He prepared a two-page summary of Steele’s dossier for Victoria Nuland, who worked with Biden in overthrowing the government of Ukraine.) Separately, Johnson also issued an 11-page letter explaining that he has refrained for two months from issuing subpoenas. However, not only has there been foot-dragging, but now the “Democrats have initiated a coordinated disinformation campaign ... for the purpose of marginalizing the finding of our investigations....”

On Aug. 7, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence singled out a Ukrainian MP Andrii Derkach, for circulating the contents of Biden’s 2015 phone call (where Biden pressed then-President Petro Poroshenko to fire his Prosecutor General) as evidence of Russian interference with the U.S. election. On Aug. 8, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) followed up with a Washington Post op-ed, insinuating that Johnson’s investigation into Biden’s corruption is a Russian plot: “And it now appears that such disinformation and deception are gaining a toehold in Congress as well.” Johnson added an addendum to his letter on today, addressing Blumenthal’s op-ed, in which he stated once again, explicitly, that his investigation has received no “documents from Ukrainians that Democrats keep claiming.”
