Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin Exchange Messages on 75th Anniversary of the End of World War II

Sept. 3, 2020 (EIRNS)—China is battening down the hatches, both internationally and domestically, in response to the British-Pompeo led assault against them—emphatically including the attempt to destroy the Belt and Road Initiative as a supposed threat to Western security, as well as the overt military/strategic moves.

Xinhua today reported an exchange of messages between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the WWII victory in the Asia-Pacific theater.

“Xi Jinping said Thursday that he is ready to work with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to join efforts with the international community to resolutely safeguard the victory of the Second World War (WWII) as well as international fairness and justice.... More than 100 million troops and civilians in all countries involved were injured or killed, paying the most painful price in human history, Xi said.”

Xi went on to say that “the Chinese and Russian peoples fought side by side and forged an unbreakable great friendship with blood, laying a solid foundation for the high-level development of bilateral relations,” and further stating that he foresaw “deeper comprehensive strategic coordination” between the two countries.

“He also suggested that the two sides make concerted efforts with the international community to actively uphold and practice multilateralism, and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, so as to allow future generations to enjoy a world featuring lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity.”

Putin, for his part,

“said that WWII was the most painful tragedy in human history, and that the Soviet Union and China were the main theatres in the fight against fascism and militarism.... Stressing that it is a common responsibility for both sides to safeguard the truth about WWII history, Putin said any attempt to distort history and whitewash the Nazis, militarists and their accomplices must be firmly rejected.”

In his message to Xi, Putin also declared that Russia is willing to “continue active efforts jointly with its ally China in order to prevent wars and conflicts in the world and ensure global stability and security.”
