The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation Opened in Belgrade

Sept. 23, 2020 (EIRNS)—The delegation led by Adam Boehler, the head of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), was in Belgrade, Serbia, on Sept. 22, where they opened the representative office of the DFC. The opening was attended by Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Boehler signed a joint statement before the office was opened via video link.

Boehler also met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic after which he told a joint press conference that $1 billion has been earmarked for a number of projects in the region and that the opening of the DFC office is not symbolic but shows the U.S. interest in the economic development of the region.

The DFC office will be headed by John Ivanovic, an American of Serbian descent, who said that he wants to see the Balkans become synonymous with peace, a region that will not see its young people leave but return to work at American investments.

For his part Vucic said the DFC office will enjoy full support in Serbia, because it is important to the future of the country.

The U.S. President’s envoy for Kosovo, Richard Grenell, reiterated that Washington is serious about fulfilling the promises made to Serbian officials and focusing on economic development.
