President and Mrs. Trump Test Positive for Coronavirus, Vice President Pence Negative

Oct. 2, 2020 (EIRNS)—At 01:00 Eastern Time on Oct. 2, President Donald Trump tweeted: “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”

A letter from the Physician to the President late on Oct. 1 and released on Oct. 2 states:

“This evening I received confirmation that both President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

“The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.

“The White House medical team and I will maintain a vigilant watch, and I appreciate the support provided by some of our country’s greatest medical professionals and institutions. Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments.”

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin sent Trump a telegram expressing his best wishes and his confidence that “I am sure that your inherent vitality, vigor and optimism will help you overcome the dangerous virus.”

Melania Trump wrote on Twitter at 11 a.m. that she was experiencing mild symptoms and saying: “Thank you for the love you are sending our way. I have mild symptoms but overall feeling good. I am looking forward to a speedy recovery.”

Vice President Mike Pence’s Press Secretary Devin O’Malley tweeted at 8 a.m. today that Vice President Pence and the Second Lady tested negative: “As has been routine for months, Vice President Pence is tested for COVID-19 every day. This morning, Vice President Pence and the Second Lady tested negative for COVID-19. Vice President Pence remains in good health and wishes the Trumps well in their recovery.”

Pence’s physician wrote the following note: “Earlier this morning under my care, Vice President Mike Pence tested negative for COVID-19.... Vice President Mike Pence remains in good health and is free to go about his normal activities.”

Pence stepped in for Trump on a 12:15 p.m. call on Friday to discuss COVID relief with governors.
