White House Issues Trump on China Book, with Anti-China Screeds from ‘Senior’ Officials

Nov. 3, 2020 (EIRNS)—Yesterday the White House issued the book Trump on China. Putting America First, containing a series of anti-China speeches delivered this year by the President and “senior” administration officials Robert O’Brien, National Security Adviser, who is also the book’s editor; FBI Director Christopher Wray, Vice President Mike Pence, Deputy National Security Adviser Matthew Pottinger, Attorney General Bill Barr, and of course Secretary of State Mike “the Rapture” Pompeo. The centerpiece of the book is comprised of four speeches commissioned by Pompeo of O’Brien, Wray, and Barr, and, then, his own speech at the Nixon Library on July 23. In his introduction to the book, O’Brien boasted that it will “educate our citizens about the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party to their livelihoods, businesses, freedoms and values.” Under President Donald Trump’s leadership, he asserted, the U.S. is now acting boldly to “protect our nation and its partners from an increasingly assertive China.” The issue isn’t China vs. the U.S., he insisted, but rather the Chinese Communist Party, “with its Marxist-Leninist and mercantilist vision for the world, versus freedom-loving people.”

Saying he was speaking for Trump, O’Brien argued that the collection of speeches will “combat the propaganda machines at the heart of the Chinese Communist Party’s global strategy. President Trump understands that it is past time for America to counter China’s messaging about the supposed strengths of its authoritarian model.” After pointing to China’s alleged crimes, O’Brien stressed that Mike Pompeo’s speeches, in particular, represented the “most significant shift in U.S. foreign policy in a generation.” He goes so far as to claim that the book is even more important than geopolitician George Kennan’s 1946 “Long Telegram” to the State Department in which he outlined his views on the Soviet Union. Today’s book contains “the words and policies of the President and his most senior officials,” O’Brien gushed; and “given China’s population size, economic prowess and historic global ambitions, the People’s Republic of China is a more capable competitor than the Soviet Union at its height.”
