Davos’ Chief Schwab Hails ‘Zero Year,’ Brags Great Reset Will Be Done in 2021

Jan. 1, 2020 (EIRNS)—Klaus Schwab, the head of the World Economic Forum and host of Prince Charles’s Nov. 9-11, 2020 and forthcoming (Jan. 25-29) “Green Horizon Summits,” claims in a New Year column in Mint that “2021 Should Be the Year of the Great Reset.” He also repeatedly writes in the column that 2021 will be “the Year Zero,” the real meaning of which is that he believes he, Charles, Mark Carney and the green finance gang can put Joe Biden and John Kerry down for a commitment to wipe out carbon-based economic activity in the United States by a fixed date.

Schwab’s key claim:

“2021 will be the year when every major government, as well as broad private-sector coalitions, commit to a ‘net-zero’ target for greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions. This means that, rather being stuck in a race to the bottom and fearing a continuous ‘free-rider’ problem, the world can benefit from a virtuous cycle of decarbonization.

“Already, the European Union has agreed to ‘enshrine 2050 climate-neutrality in law,’ China has pledged to become ‘climate-neutral by 2060,’ and Japan has made a similar pledge for 2050. With Joe Biden having been elected President, the U.S. is expected to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement, and aim for 100% clean energy and net-zero emissions by 2050. Moreover, a series of industry and corporate commitments now complements government efforts. Never before has the global climate movement been so large and so concrete.”

In fact, a “zero carbon” commitment was featured as the “sense of Congress” in the combined 2021 budget/COVID relief legislation just passed, the first time any such folly has been allowed in any U.S. law because of President Donald Trump’s resolute opposition to it. Zero carbon would mean burning the bridge to nuclear fission and fusion, putting modern economies back into the pre-fossil fuel backwardness of wind and solar power and burning biomass, with ruin for other industries such as chemicals as well.
