Twitter Plunges Ahead with Censorship, Covers Up U.K. Meddling

Feb. 24 , 2021 (EIRNS)—If you’d like to tweet about Max Blumenthal’s reporting on the U.K. Foreign Office documents released by Anonymous, Twitter has other plans. It has developed yet another warning to display to scare people away from engaging with such tweets. “(!) These materials may have been obtained through hacking” Big Tweeter warns its users. People trying to like such tweets on mobile were presented with an interstitial warning screen that adds “Help keep Twitter a place for reliable info. Find out more before liking.” A helpful link to “Find out more” is presented, before allowing the user to finally click the like button.

(It hardly needs to be stated that materials having been “obtained through hacking” does not make it less “reliable”! Chapo Trap House co-host Will Menaker pointed this out in a tweet: “It’s nice of Twitter to include this feature which highlights journalism that is especially important.”)

These warning labels build on Twitter’s censorial decisions in October 2020 to prevent its users from sharing the New York Post story about Hunter Biden’s laptop. That decision was similarly supposedly based on Twitter’s “hacked materials policy.”
