Harris Will Not Push for $15 Minimum Wage Through Reconciliation

Feb. 28 , 2021 (EIRNS)—The Senate Parliamentarian ruled that incorporating through reconciliation with the Senate the $15/hour minimum wage approved by the House would violate Congressional rules; such a change would require an actual vote in the Senate and be subject to a Republican filibuster. Vice President Harris declined to pursue a vote to overrule the parliamentarian.

Reconciliation is a process whereby differences are resolved between House and Senate versions of bills. The process relies on a simple majority vote and is not subjected to being filibustered through a cloture vote.
