Russiagate-Pushing Media Retract Lie That FBI Gave Giuliani ‘Defensive Briefing’ on Russian Manipulation

May 2, 2021 (EIRNS)—The New York Times, Washington Post and NBC News, three of the leaders in lying “Russiagate” fake news over the past years, were all forced to issue retractions on May 1 for their claim that Rudy Giuliani had been given a “defensive briefing”—a briefing that someone is being played by someone or some country—that Russia was feeding him disinformation. The New York Post reports that the issue included Giuliani’s Ukraine work and Donald Trump’s firing of neocon U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie L. Yovanovitch, and whether he received a warning from the FBI about Russian disinformation. One American News (OAN) was also falsely reported to have been warned.

“An earlier version of this article misstated whether Rudolph W. Giuliani received a formal warning from the FBI about Russian disinformation. Mr. Giuliani did not receive such a so-called defensive briefing,” the Times wrote Saturday in a note attached to the piece. The Washington Post and NBC were similar, but NBC claimed that the briefing was “only prepared for Giuliani and not delivered to him, in part over concerns it might complicate the criminal investigation of Giuliani. As a result, the premise and headline of the article below have been changed to reflect the corrected information.”

Today Giuliani tweeted, with a display of the Times retraction: “Where did the original false information come from? @MSNBC@CNN@nytimes I couldn’t quite hear your apology?” and then (with a display of the Post retraction): “On a Saturday, the Washington Post added this correction to their defamatory story about me. The Washington Post and the NYT must reveal their sources who lied and targeted an American Citizen. #msnbc , #cnn forgot to mention the corrections today. #fakenews #badpeople.”

The FBI raid on Giuliani’s house and office was on April 28, 2021.
