Antonov Reveals, after Geneva Russia Proposes to U.S., ‘We Must Live without Quarrelling on This Planet’

June 22, 2021 (EIRNS)—Russia’s Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov told reporters that Russia has sent proposals to the U.S. as a follow-up to the Geneva Summit, reported TASS today. “All participants [left Geneva] with the hope that Russian-U.S. relations would stabilize. Certainly, we expect that tomorrow will be better, better not only for Russia and the U.S., but the entire world,” Antonov noted. “That’s because the situation not only in Russia and the U.S., but also in the entire world, depends on how our Presidents held talks and what agreements they reached,” he said.

“In the early hours of today we sent our colleagues a series of proposals on the meetings, on the need to hold a serious conversation on how we will live together. We have no other option but to live without quarreling on this planet,” the Ambassador said. “That’s because, as Russian President Vladimir Putin stated many times, Russia and the U.S. bear special responsibility for international peace and security. We should cooperate and there is no other option.”

Antonov said he has already informed his American colleagues, but went on, “Let’s wait a little bit. I think this will take a little time and we will be able to discuss with you the particular results of what we agreed to and what we were able to do.” Among the issues to be discussed, Antonov said, is strategic stability. “We are committed to such a dialogue, not just a dialogue for the sake of dialogue, but a dialogue that would yield specific results ... so that the peoples of both the United States and Russia and, of course, the whole world, can live in peace and feel safe.”

“We managed to get in touch with our counterparts from the Department of State today, and specific meetings will be held in the coming days. It would probably be inappropriate to say, with whom and when these meetings will be held,” he said.

Yesterday, U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price told a press briefing that the U.S. delegation at the talks on strategic stability would be led by a senior State Department official and that preparations for the first meeting were underway.
