We Are Facing ‘Fascism With a Green Face,’ and We Should Call It That

Oct. 6, 2021 (EIRNS)—The kind of hyperinflation that is taking off across the planet, Helga Zepp-LaRouche stated in her weekly webcast, is what her husband uniquely warned about when the Club of Rome first began pushing its anti-human slogan of “limits to growth” in the late 1960s. This is Schachtian policy, Lyndon LaRouche said at the time, referring to the policies of Hitler’s infamous Finance Minister who introduced drastic austerity and cost-cutting methods that led straight to the concentration camps and the gas ovens. This is the strategy today of leading oligarchs running the world economy, Zepp-LaRouche asserted, which they are now openly promoting in such places as an October 4 Economist magazine article, “The Age of Fossil-Fuel Abundance Is Dead,” and in Klaus Schwab’s new book, Stakeholder Capitalism, as the dark future they intend to impose. Zepp-LaRouche stated that this is “fascism with a Green face,” and should be identified as such, to mobilize people to defeat it.

In addition to destroying the world’s physical economy, these oligarchs are engaging in an assault against the idea of human creativity, which is the one source of innovation which has demonstrated that, as LaRouche wrote, “There Are No Limits to Growth.” And at the same time, they are conducting provocations against China which could lead to war. Zepp-LaRouche reiterated her view that collaborative efforts among nations, including the U.S., Russia and China, to reconstruct Afghanistan and Haiti, can provide a basis for overcoming this otherwise deadly threat to humanity.

There is another sense in which the current policy, which has unleashed a hyperinflationary blowout of the international financial system, is “green.”

The price of crude oil has risen 50% since the beginning of the year—and that is being blamed by politicians and the media on “supply and demand.” The price of natural gas in Europe has quadrupled this year: on Oct. 5 it hit a new high of $1,350 per thousand cubic meters, and then by the next morning of Oct. 6 it had soared to $1,900—again, “supply and demand.”

Lyndon LaRouche repeatedly ridiculed this idea of free trade, supply-and-demand economics as British liberal fascism, a belief that the economy is run by “little green men” under the floorboards. For example, in his keynote presentation to a March 21-23, 2003 conference of the Schiller Institute, “How To Reconstruct a Bankrupt World,” in Bad Schwalbach, Germany, LaRouche stated:

“Let’s take the ‘little green men’ theory; which is what most economists teach, what every free-market person teaches: It’s their independent opinion, as stupidity of their independent opinion. What’s its basis? Well, it’s based largely on empiricism, in modern times. Take the empiricism of Hobbes. But, the more famous one, the more relevant for our concern here, is not Hobbes, but rather people like John Locke—a real potential fascist; he’s called a liberal—that’s why liberals sometimes turn into fascists, like Hjalmar Schacht; Quesnay, the physiocrat; Adam Smith, Bernard Mandeville, and other creatures of the British East India Company, such as Jeremy Bentham. These people’s theory is all based on the theory, that the universe is actually controlled by little green men, operating under the floorboards of reality. And these fellows, with their invisible hands, are fixing the throw of the dice, to make some people wealthy and powerful, and others destitute and miserable. And, that’s the theory. It’s the theory of free trade! There’s nothing to it, but that.”

These British free trade policies have now unleashed a hyperinflationary blowout combined with a Schachtian collapse of the physical economy, which threatens to annihilate large portions of the world’s population. “This is really serious stuff,” Zepp-LaRouche stressed. “This is fascism no less than it was with the Nazis.... The present green policy is madness, it is fascism with a green face. It will lead to catastrophic results if it’s not reversed.”

The alternative of international cooperation around the tasks of global development—led by a working alliance among the U.S., China, Russia and India, as long advocated by Lyndon LaRouche—is readily available, Zepp-LaRouche stated. “The legacy of Lyndon LaRouche is still very much alive, much to the chagrin of his brain-dead enemies and opponents,” she concluded.
