New World Hunger Report Shows Up the COP26 Green Genocide
Nov. 8, 2021 (EIRNS)—The second week of the COP26 Climate Summit started yesterday, with a continuation of more of the same daily sessions on radical schemes for reducing and downgrading the means to life, while at the same time, pumping “green finance” money to the banksters. The heads of state who came last week are missing, but the week was kicked off by “sub-national” state, city and local leaders, alongside Sir Michael “No-Coal” Bloomberg, UN Special Envoy for Climate Ambition and Solutions. They all proclaimed how they will green the world, no matter what elected national governments may or may not do.
Gov. Jay Inslee, of Washington state, is a spokesman for this, announcing an initiative to decarbonize the Pacific Northwest. The Glasgow Food and Climate Declaration, with a list of cooperating cities worldwide (from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Auckland, Australia), was released, pledging to do everything possible to reduce CO2 emissions (plant food, remember), because, they claim, food production contributes one-third of all greenhouse gases, threatening Earth with meltdown.
What about the world hunger crisis? The fuel crisis? The fertilizer and world food crisis? Nothing.
As it happens, the World Food Program on Nov. 7 released a new report, with their latest estimate that 45 million people are now on the brink of starvation. This is up 3 million in just the last few weeks, because of lack of food and resources especially in Ethiopia, Somalia, Haiti, Angola and Kenya. All told, these people in dire need are in 43 nations. The WFP calls for $7 billion—up from the earlier appeals, to meet the emergency. WFP’s Executive Director David Beasley explained, “Fuel costs are up, food prices are soaring, fertilizer is more expensive, and all of this feeds into new crises like the one unfolding now in Afghanistan, as well as long-standing emergencies like Yemen and Syria.”
Beasley was in Afghanistan over the weekend. “It is as bad as you can possibly imagine...In fact, we’re now looking at the worst humanitarian crisis on Earth. Ninety-five percent of the people don’t have enough food, and now we’re looking at 23 million people marching towards starvation.... The next six months are going to be catastrophic. It is going to be Hell on Earth.”
Looking at the Beasley report and the hunger picture today, Schiller Institute President Helga Zepp-LaRouche drew out the point plainly: “That is the reality of where humanity is today.” Given this reality, anyone in Glasgow talking about green schemes for “nature smart” agriculture, land use, low-emissions transportation and all the crafted topics, at FLOP26 is on the side of genocidalists.
The spectacle of billionaires and royals swarming around in Glasgow for the green summit is in the same frame, complete with ritzy yachts, limousine caravans, and private aircraft. Beasley again hit out at their inaction to dire emergency on his Twitter account: “To the world leaders & the billionaires: Imagine if this was your little girl or your little boy or your grandchild about to starve, you would do everything you possibly could. And when there’s $400 trillion of wealth on the Earth today, shame on us that we let any child die from hunger! Shame on us! I don’t care where that child is.”
American journalist Caitlin Johnstone wrote in her website on Oct. 31, on the eve of COP26, that these billionaires are an “unfathomably wealthy class” with the means to end world hunger, but who are so “emotionally and psychologically stunted” that they refuse to do so.
This points up the title of the Nov. 13-14 Schiller Institute conference, “All Moral Resources of Humanity Have To Be Called Up: Mankind Must Be the Immortal Species!”
It is redundant to say, there is no time to lose. The crises are cross-feeding now. Look at the food supply question. Vegetable oils went up 10% in price in one month into October. They are hyperinflating the most rapidly of all food groups. One ugly factor is that high petroleum prices mean that more soy and other oilseeds are being raked off for use as biodiesel. Last week, a U.S. food processor association asked the government to slow it down, lest the country suffer huge food shortages.
Governments have the power, and responsibility, to make the right decisions in the national interest, if sovereignty is reasserted. Russian President Vladimir Putin has acted on that principle, in offering to make and supply more fertilizer to ease the world fertilizer crisis. On natural gas, today is the deadline Putin indicated, for when Russian storage capacity should be filled sufficiently for Russia to make more natural gas available for foreign users.
The Schiller Institute conference this weekend is the platform for furthering sanity and morality, to activate nations for the emergency decisions required, in all respects.
