Biden Says, U.S. Troops May Be Sent to Eastern European Nations, but Not Ukraine

Dec. 12, 2021 (EIRNS)—Following the President’s remarks on the Dec. 11 tornadoes in Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky and other states, a reporter asked President Joe Biden what made him decide “to take U.S. ground combat troops off the table” regarding Ukraine. “They never were on the table,” Biden replied. “And are you ready to send American troops into war and go into Ukraine to fight Russians on the battlefield?”

Biden went on to threaten economic devastation of Russia should Putin, according to the Anglo-American/NATO narrative, decide to invade Ukraine. “I’ve made it absolutely clear to President Putin ... that if he moves on Ukraine, the economic consequences for his economy are going to be devastating—devastating—number one.” Secondly, “we will find it required that we’ll have to send more American and NATO troops into the eastern flank—the B9 and all those NATO countries where we have a sacred obligation—to defend them against any attack by Russia.” The B9, or Bucharest 9, refers to the Eastern European member states of NATO, initiated by Poland and Romania—where NATO has emplaced U.S. “missile defense” weapons—and Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia.

Thirdly, Biden predicted that if Russia does invade Ukraine, it’ll become a pariah state, perhaps like North Korea. “The impact of all of that on Russia and its attitude—the rest of the world’s view of Russia would change markedly. He’ll pay a terrible price.” Biden also remarked that Washington will “continue to provide for—and we have and continue to provide for—the defense capacities for the Ukrainian people.”
