Elon Musk’s Peace Proposal Enrages Ukraine and Lights Up Twitter

Oct. 3, 2022 (EIRNS)—On Oct. 3, billionaire eccentric Elon Musk put out a poll on his Twitter, which has 107 million followers. He wrote: “Ukraine-Russia Peace:

“-Redo elections of annexed regions under UN supervision. Russia leaves if that is will of the people.

“-Crimea formally part of Russia, as it has been since 1783 (until Khrushchev’s mistake).

“-Water supply to Crimea assured.

“-Ukraine remains neutral.

“Yes or No?”

As of this writing, there were 1.9 million votes, 38% Yes and 62% No.

He followed it 15 minutes later with a reply to the first tweet, that: “This is highly likely to be the outcome in the end—just a question of how many die before then.”

Musk definitely drew the ire from Twitter, as he had brought so-called “Russian propaganda” a little too close into their safe space. Diplomats, presidents and former presidents, and a bunch of lunatics from around the world responded. The recently dismissed Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, an acolyte of Hitler’s ally, Stepan Bandera, tweeted: “Fuck off is my very diplomatic reply to you @elonmusk.” The official Twitter account of the Ukrainian parliament was a simple, “No,” and even Zelenskyy responded with his own poll, asking “Which @elonmusk do you like more? One who supports Ukraine? Or one who supports Russia?” Many more amusing comments poured in accusing Musk of all sorts of absurdities.

At one point, Musk responded to another user, “You are assuming that I wish to be popular. I don’t care. I do care that millions of people may die needlessly for an essentially identical outcome.” And then later: “Russia is doing partial mobilization. They go to full war mobilization if Crimea is at risk. Death on both sides will be devastating. Russia has >3 times population of Ukraine, so victory for Ukraine is unlikely in total war. If you care about the people of Ukraine, seek peace.”

He then sent out another poll, this time saying: “Let’s try this then: the will of the people who live in the Donbas & Crimea should decide whether they’re part of Russia or Ukraine—Yes or No.” The latter poll had 1.5 million votes as of Monday evening, 57% Yes, 43% No.
