Peskov Affirms Russia’s Policy on Nuclear Weapons Clearly Restated

Oct. 3, 2022 (EIRNS)—Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov demonstrated the precise and cool-headed maturity that is somewhat too rare in a world on the brink of a thermonuclear exchange. He addressed reporters today, after Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of the Russia’s Chechen Republic, had suggested Moscow use “low-yield nuclear weapons” against Ukraine.

Peskov explained that Kadyrov had “contributed a lot” in the military campaign in Ukraine. However, while the heads of various regions in Russia are free to express their personal opinion and even “give assessments” on issues, that doesn’t mean they can “give free rein to their emotions,” as RT put it, and Peskov added that this applies “even in difficult times.”

Asked whether Kadyrov’s remark was a case of an inappropriate display of emotion, Peskov concisely replied: In Russia, the use of nuclear weapons “is based on what is laid down in the respective doctrine. There can be no other considerations here.”
