No, Russia Does Not Plan To Use Nuclear Weapons in Ukraine

Nov. 24, 2022 (EIRNS)—Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Andrey Kelin yesterday told BBC that the possibility of Russia using tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine is ruled out.

“I do not envisage that in the coming weeks or days we will have serious events on the ground,” Kelin began, noting that the situation in Ukraine currently appears to be “more stabilized,” allowing Russian forces to regroup.

The ambassador stressed the “need to end the fight that started not now, not in February, but a few years ago, in 2014.”

When asked about the possibility of using Russian tactical weapons in Ukraine, Kelin said: “There is no intention. It is not a situation when nuclear weapons can be used at all,” he said. “I do believe there is no possibility that we can come to implement tactical nuclear weapons.”

Earlier this week, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov had explained that Russia is not trying to bring about a regime change in Kiev as part of its military operation. He reiterated that Moscow didn’t rule out peace negotiations with Ukraine, saying that its goals in the country could be achieved “by various methods and in various formats.” And they will be achieved eventually, Peskov assured reporters, according to RT.
