Schiller Institute Releases Video on ‘Freedom of Expression Award’ Made to It by Journalists Club of Mexico

Dec. 11, 2022 (EIRNS)—A six-minute video is now available in both English and Spanish, on the “Freedom of Expression Award” that the Journalists Club of Mexico bestowed on the Schiller Institute and its founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche, in a Dec. 7 ceremony in Mexico City. These are the links, followed by the brief description posted on YouTube:

The prestigious Journalists Club of Mexico on December 7th announced the results of its 70th annual National and International Journalism Competition, presenting its awards to journalists selected by an independent jury. The Schiller Institute and its founder Helga Zepp-LaRouche received the Freedom of Expression Award, which back in 2019 had been conferred on Julian Assange. This year, Darya Dugina, the Russian journalist who was killed in a terrorist attack outside Moscow back in August, was given a posthumous award received on her behalf by the Russian ambassador to Mexico.

The ceremony began with the Mexican national anthem. Jesús Ramírez Cuevas, press spokesman of the Mexican presidency, brought greetings from President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to the gathered journalists, diplomats and other guests. And the leaders of the Journalists Clubs added their voice to the international demand for peace and an end to war, and against the assassinations and threats by groups such as Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD).

Included in the video were Mrs. Zepp-LaRouche remarks to the Journalists:

“My most heartfelt thanks and greetings to you, the Journalists Club of Mexico, the international jury, Mrs. Celeste Sáenz de Miera and Mr. Mouris Salloum.

“I feel deeply honored that you decided to select me for the Freedom of Expression Award and how happy I would have been to travel to the beautiful country of Mexico, about which I have many cherished, precious memories, to receive it in person.

“I have to ask you to understand that, for the time being, I can’t do this, since I am on an Ukrainian list, which many experts have described as a hitlist, and of which several people have been killed. I am actually the number one on that list of the CCD.

“We find ourselves at an incredibly decisive moment in world history, on the one side threatened with a possible global nuclear war, on the other hand the rapid emergence of a new just world economic order. Recently it was Mexican congressmen and women who helped to catalyze a movement of people from all over the world who, faced with the danger of annihilation of the entire human species, decided to activate themselves as world citizens.

“In the same spirit, I think that Mexico can play a unique role, not only to help to bring all of Latin America to work with the Belt and Road Initiative, but, given its historical and geographical location, can do something on which the existence of humanity may depend: to get the U.S. and China, the two largest economies of the planet, to work together in the joint development of the Ibero-American continent and all of the Global South.

“Thank you so very, very much.”
