Biden Administration Welcomes Africa Summit by Sanctioning Africans

Dec. 13, 2022 (EIRNS)—The United States has ushered in the U.S. Africa Summit starting today with a decision that may set the tone for the deliberations—the announcement of new sanctions on four people from Zimbabwe—including the Emmerson Mnangagwa, Jr., the son of President Emmerson Mnangagwa—and two companies from that nation. “The goal of sanctions is behavior change,” said the Treasury Department press release announcing the new sanctions, intended, supposedly, to help create a “peaceful, prosperous, and politically vibrant Zimbabwe.”

After the success of the Russia-Africa summit and the numerous successful Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) meetings, this is the first U.S. Africa summit in nearly a decade.
