Turkish Daily Says Zelenskyy Has Gained Polish Agreement To Deepen Its Involvement in Ukraine War
Dec. 29, 2022 (EIRNS)—Is Poland directly involved in the war in Ukraine? Yesterday, there were numerous citations of an article in the Turkish daily, Cumhuriyet, reporting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had managed to negotiate with the Polish authorities the participation of the armed forces of Poland in the conflict in Ukraine. Zelenskyy met with Polish officials on Dec. 22 including President Andrzej Duda in Rzeszow, Poland on his way back to Kiev, following his Dec. 21 meeting with President Joe Biden in Washington. Apparently, the agreements in Poland were reached as a result of Zelenskyy’s meeting with Biden and key figures in the American elite. The author of the Turkish story, Mehmet Ali Güller, (in Turkish) admits a high probability of Poland’s direct involvement in the armed conflict against Russia, quoting Warsaw’s Deputy Defense Minister Marcin Ociepa (in Polish) from Sputnik.
That Poland is already deeply involved in Ukraine is well known. Not only is Poland the third-largest provider of military aid to Ukraine, but it also serves as the main transshipment point for weapons from the U.S. and its allies to Ukraine. Poland is also a member of two sets of alliances aimed against Russia: a Britain-Poland-Ukraine formation, and a second grouping of Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine, known as the Lublin Triangle. That second grouping’s Prime Ministers on Nov. 26, in which, they issued a joint statement, which at the outset, “emphasized the significant role of the Lublin Triangle in consolidating international support for Ukraine in countering Russia’s armed aggression.”
