Russian Defense Minister Emphasizes Readiness of Nuclear Triad

Jan. 10, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—On a Russian Defense Ministry conference call today, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu stated: “We will continue to develop the nuclear triad and maintain its combat readiness, because the nuclear shield remains the main guarantee of our country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

A couple of weeks ago, Shoigu had reported at an annual board meeting involving President Vladimir Putin that, quoting TASS, “the share of advanced equipment provided to the county’s strategic nuclear forces had reached 91.3%,” a very advanced level of modernization. It underlined Shoigu’s claim that Russia’s nuclear triad is being maintained at a level where strategic deterrence is guaranteed.
