Lyndon LaRouche, FDR, and the ‘New Spirit of Bandung’

Jan. 30, 2023, 2022 (EIRNS)—We recall today, six days before the Schiller Institute Feb. 4 conference, “The Age of Reason, or the Annihilation of Humanity?” the post-World War Two mission of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, born July 30, 1882. While FDR did not live to the end of that war, his vision was adopted and advanced through the words and actions of World War Two veteran Lyndon LaRouche. LaRouche’s entire adult life, particularly from 1945 until his death, February 12, 2019, was devoted to the eradication of British, Belgian, Portuguese, Dutch and French colonialism.

Now, that neo-imperial system is in its final stages of collapse, attacking the emerging world alliance exemplified by the BRICS-Plus process and the Belt and Road initiative (both of which were influenced by the economic policies, programs, and campaigns of LaRouche and his associates since the proposal of the 1975 International Development Bank). Its “green Malthusianism” betrays a Satanic outlook toward humanity. It boasts a predatory, cannibalizing economic practice to match. Those imperial, racialist practices, those “eighteenth-century methods” against which the American Revolution had been fought, were denounced by FDR to an apoplectic Winston Churchill on more than one occasion. Churchill’s response was, “I have not become the King’s First Minister in order to preside over the liquidation of the British Empire.”

In an October 1997 EIR seminar, LaRouche identified the best way to give heart attacks to imperialists of the Churchillian bent: free the people of the world through technological progress, accomplished through technology transfer. This is the process now underway, worldwide, but especially in the continent of Africa, to which the “technological apartheid” forces of the “Green NATO” Great Reset vehemently and murderously object. LaRouche said: “This ability to transfer technology, and to develop it, depends upon the ratio, of the number of persons employed, productively, in a machine-tool-sector industry, to the total number of persons employed in the economy. That is: the ratio of the rate of technological progress, per capita, in the machine-tool sector, as compared with the projected rate of technological progress per capita in the labor force, as a whole. This is the key, the indispensable key, to economic progress: Without it, you can’t have it.... And, therefore, the crucial thing, to all of these parts of the world, whether it’s Africa, South Asia, East Asia, is to provide to the sectors of the world, the right to development. The right to development, involves education, infrastructure development, and, above all, the machine-tool design capability, without which you cannot have continuous, sustainable development.”

FDR’s outlook, not merely in response to Churchill, but in response to the imperialist conception of man expressed in what he witnessed in his visits to Britain’s Gambia, Africa colony, was that Britain was presiding over “a hell-hole.” Of the very idea of imperial rule, which FDR believed created the preconditions for the atrocity called World War One and World War Two, he said: “They [who] seek to establish systems of government based on the regimentation of all human beings by a handful of individual rulers ... call this a new order. It is not new and it is not order.” We see and hear the echo of this all around us today. The nations of the trans-Atlantic sector and their citizens wake up to find themselves in a war with Russia and China, which no one wants, except “a handful of individual rulers,” often dictating the actions of the “democratically elected governments,” in which citizens are being surveilled and monitored 24 hours a day. Called “social media,” it’s 24-hour interactive spyware. American generals announced this week that the United States will be at war with China by 2025. Just last week, America and Europe were informed, through the statements of NATO puppet German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and others, that we are at war with Russia. The war is presumably being fought to defend the “new, rules-based world order.”

But there is another, actual concept of lawful, sovereign rule—a new, just world economic order, which was the aspiration of the over 100 newly-established nations that came into existence after World War Two, starting with India, and the successful non-violent movement of Mahatma Gandhi. FDR would have been very supportive of what Gandhi’s movement achieved, had he lived to see it. Gandhi’s spiritual descendants, including Indira Gandhi, the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru, worked with the LaRouches to give economic content to Gandhi’s notion of peace.

In the dialogue that Lyndon and Helga Zepp-LaRouche carried out with world leaders from the 1970s on, including José López Portillo of Mexico, Indira Gandhi of India, and many others; and in their work with figures such as Guyana’s great Foreign Minister Fred Wills, and former President of Uganda Godfrey Binaisa, both of whom became directly affiliated with the Schiller Institute, it came to pass that many “listened to the wise words of Lyndon LaRouche.” In China and Russia, and in each in a different way, that dialogue with LaRouche was special, and especially fruitful. In both instances, intelligentsia from those nations adopted not only elements, but also the outlook, at least in part, that governed LaRouche’s unique breakthroughs in physical economy, especially his revolutionary approach to the concepts of work, power, and technological progress.

Last year, Russian economist Sergei Glazyev, who personally discussed economics with LaRouche over 20 years ago wrote, on the occasion of LaRouche’s 100th birthday: “If the leaders of the world nations had listened to the voice of Lyndon LaRouche, then, perhaps we might have managed to avoid the social upheavals we confront today, as a result of the collapse of the world financial and economic system, which is based on unlimited emission of the dollar and other western reserve currencies.... Lyndon LaRouche looked decades ahead. He warned the U.S.A. and its partners about the inevitable collapse of their financial expansion policy, under which the interests of speculators eclipse the national interest and the development of the economy. The global speculators and world oligarchy, which are parasites on the monetary emission of world currencies, greatly disliked LaRouche for this. He was persecuted and faced imprisonment. He ran for the United States presidency several times, and if Lyndon LaRouche had been elected President, the world today would be developing in a stable fashion. There would not be the growing chaos, there would not be the worldwide wars and provocations, which the global oligarchy does in order to write off its debts.”

Glazyev is only one of several persons in and around governments throughout the world, that are prepared to use the ideas of Lyndon LaRouche on the subject of physical economy to outflank the economically and strategically backward neo-liberal/neo-conservative military strategy, called “Global NATO.” Commenting about the latter in preparation for this Saturday’s conference, Helga Zepp-LaRouche said recently, “Well, I think that the conference topics will be extremely hot, and given the fact that you have this escalation, with the Leopard 2 tanks, you have the efforts to increase the Global NATO, the EU-NATO agreement, the Japan-British agreement, the so-called reciprocal cooperation agreement; the AUKUS among Australia, the U.S., and Great Britain—so you have a whole, clear sign that Global NATO is preparing for the showdown with Russia and China, and more and more people, especially in the Global South are waking up to this....”

So, while it might seem that the present drive toward war coming from “an old, mad, blind, diseased and dying” trans-Atlantic oligarchy is all-encompassing and irresistible, it is not so. There is a new Spirit of Bandung that is sweeping the world, more powerful than the death-agony of this doomed financial-political system, which fewer and fewer people believe in. The Feb. 4, 2022 “China-Russia Joint Statement on International Relations Entering a New Era,” comprehensive agreement, to those who know the history of what was called “the Sino-Soviet Split,” reflects the use of the ideas of the 1648 Treaty of Westphalia, not merely to stop a war, but to build a peace more dynamic, because technologically optimistic, than the cultural pessimism of Malthusian “gunboat diplomacy, looking for monsters to kill.” Meanwhile, as the U.S. Treasury’s Janet Yellen, NATO’s Jens Stoltenberg, and the State Department’s Tony Antony Blinken traipse around the world, attempting to enlist Africa, Asia and South America in their war against civilization called “Project Democracy,” does it ever occur to them that, from the standpoint of the people they are exhorting, extorting and threatening, that, morally speaking, they are wearing no clothes?

Stopping nuclear war in this present world circumstance requires that we provide the vision and promise of a future that people can sense is just beyond their grasp, but at the same time is within reach, should they stretch their minds past the narrow range of their false axioms about the nature of humanity. Grasp the Ten Principles of a New International Security and Development Architecture, and the initiative for peace, begun by Pope Francis and advanced through efforts such as the Saturday conference, will become reality.
